'Come All Ye' is a folk music radio program broadcast on
2MCE-FM each Sunday from 12 to 2pm, heard across the central west of NSW, Australia, in the cities of Bathurst (92.3 Mhz) and Orange (94.7 Mhz). Bruce Cameron has hosted 'Come All Ye' since 1976, making it the longest running folk / acoustic / roots program on Australian radio still with its original presenter.

This weekend our community radio station celebrated 30 years of broadcasting and, I'm proud to say, I have been presenting folk music programs since the beginning.  Remembering the slightly more demanding days of playing vinyl on air, today's featured 'long-playing record album' was CHEQUERED ROOTS by ROGER WATSON  (Plant Life).  Better known now for his association with the group Boka Halat, back in 1988 Roger Watson released this album containing innovative arrangements of several songs and tunes, mostly from the English tradition.  The following tracks were scattered through the program:

The featured album was THE SONGS OF CHRIS KEMPSTER, a newly released double CD produced as a special project for the Folk Federation of NSW (www.jam.org.au) (available from www.tradandnow.com and www.folktrax.com.au).  Chris Kempster was hugely influential in the Australian folk revival as a singer, songwriter and activist from the 1950s until his death in 2004.  He is also remembered for setting a large number of Henry Lawson's poems to music, eventually published in 'The Songs of Henry Lawson' in 1989.  The album includes many of these Lawson adaptations, as well as other material, performed by Kempster and by other artists.  The following tracks (all * Australian content) were scattered through the program:

The featured album was OF MANY HANDS by STEVE TILSTON www.steve-tilston.co.uk (ADA Recordings).  This album by a well respected English singer songwriter contains almost all traditional songs.  Much of the material is known across the English speaking world and is described as being "unhindered by national boundaries". Tilston treats the songs with respect and ably demonstrates how folk songs evolve as they pass through many hands.  This is an excellent album.  The following tracks were scattered through the program:
